In Year 10, pupils are orgainsed into five form groups, each with an experienced form tutor. All form groups put together and present at least two assemblies per year. These assemblies are organised by the form tutor and they always have a pastoral focus; some deal with serious issues, for example, the dangers we face on the internet, whilst others deal with more jovial matters, like the importance of positive thinking. Each assembly gives a selection of pupils the opportunity to gain confidence from presenting their ideas to their peers. Interspersed with these assemblies are presentations and notices from the Head of Year 10 on more prosaic matters, like the upcoming rudiments of GCSE modular Science exams and forthcoming dates in the diary. On regular occasions, the Head of Year will also tackle an issue relevant to all at that point in time, for example, the value of the individual or the importance of voting in general elections. The ethos of these weekly assemblies and the twice-weekly form periods, during which pupils allow their academic planners to be checked whilst working through the school's highly interactive study skills package, ensure that Year 10 is an interesting, stimulating and challenging time for Colfe's students. This feeling is only further reinforced by our Active Citizenship programme. Pupils are given the chance to listen to and interact with outside speakers each term as they present their thoughts on serious issues such as drug and alochol abuse, other social and health issues and careers advice. All of this ensures that Year 10 are well provided for in pastoral terms.
