The U13 netball squad has been ranked 5th in the Kent Schools Tournament after getting through to the Quarter Finals. Miss Holder explains what happened:
“The U13 Netball squad travelled to Aylesford for the annual Kent schools’ tournament. With excitement running high in the mini bus we were all looking forward to the start of the tournament. We had 6 other schools in our group who we had to compete against to make it through to the second round. We had convincing victories over Herne Bay (W11-0), Hayes(W7-3), Sutton Valance(W6-1), St Gregory’s (W5-1) and The Towers School (W12-1). Emma Williams and Daniella Faloye were outstanding in defence making flying interceptions and stopping our opposition from scoring many goals. Pippa Britton was also marking tight to make interceptions and helping to bring the ball down court. At the other end of the court Bella Perry was popping the ball through the net to score Colfe’s as many goals as possible. Sevenoaks proved to be tough opponents and we struggled to play against much taller girls. Unfortunately we lost this match but thanks to our other results we made it through to round 2. So we were back on the bus and heading to Rainham for the rest of the tournament. Our next match was against Benenden who we knew were going to be a tough opposition. Luckily Lara Hedegaard and Beth Flemming were on court and working hard to defend their players and also feed the ball into the circle very well. Gemma Stephenson playing at wing defence made lots of vital interceptions to provide us with extra shooting opportunities. We won this match 5-3.
“So onto the quarter finals, we were drawn against Hillview, we again came up against players much taller and bigger than we were. Victoria Newman who had been playing superbly throughout the tournament worked hard again to control the game at centre. She fed the circle well and chased every interception. Unfortunately we lost this game and so were knocked out of the tournament. After a fantastic day of netball we were ranked 5th, an excellent result for the girls. Bella Perry and Daniella Faloye were voted joint players of the tournament.
“It was a pleasure to spend the day with the U13s and I was very proud of not only the skills shown by the team but also the enthusiasm and attitude that all the girls had throughout the day.”
