Design and Technology stimulates pupils’ creative energy and gives them experience of
using tools and materials. It helps them to become discerning consumers and to understand the
crucial role of design in the industrialised world.
At Colfe’s we have the facilities for pupils to work in a wide range of materials, although a new emphasis on CAD/CAM technology has inspired the use of smart materials and rapid prototyping techniques.
In the foundation years, pupils work through a variety of design projects that introduce them to manufacturing processes in wood, metal and plastics. At GCSE and Advanced Level, design projects remain central, but students investigate the properties of materials and study design in its broadest context.
