Art Exhibition lauded as "Exceptional", "Outstanding" and "Superb"

Crowds have gathered to see an exhibition of Fine Art and Graphic work by Sixth Form Art students.

The display which counts towards the students' final AS and A2 results, received a warm response by the many people who came to look at the show.

Alice Stevens from Year 12, whose work was part of the display, said it was always exciting to show her work to an audience. "I've enjoyed bringing all my work together in one place because it's helped me see the progress that I've made over the year.  I was a little nervous at first but my friends have been very supportive and it's lovely that so many people have come to see the exhibition."

Year 11 students, Zora Harris, Harriett Verges and Abigail Stephenson were the first to look around.  Abigail was very taken by the seaweed made from clay. "I'm very impressed with how the photography accompanies the clay models- outstanding and really captures the textures that come out in the clay work."

Harriett loved the Lamps: "I like this display especially because it's a little different.  It's the practical application of art which really appeals to me.  These lamps are something I would have in my bedroom at home"  Finally Zora pinpointed Fergus Powrie's graphic work as her favourite.  "I'm very impressed with the British Airways poster graphics.  I'm very much into design and even though the fine art on display here is amazing, this graphic work seems more real and powerful to me."

Year 12's Louis Osborne liked the graphic displays as well.  "There's a lot of contrast in them and I think it is an amazingly high standard."

Rachel Fielder-West from Year 7 was equally impressed: "all the work seems superb and I loved it all but particularly I liked a portrait by Olivia Elsden of her friend.  It seemed so professional."

Head of Girls Games, Miss Hargrave, was impressed by the high standard of work "It's always of such exceptional quality and is a pleasure to come and see.  Rob Ware's portrait of Bob, the Grounds man, was stunning and really captured not just his image but his personality as well."

Deputy Head of Sixth Form, Miss Taylor agreed "I think the work was outstanding and Rob Ware's portrait would not have seemed out of place in a professional art gallery,. It was interesting to see how the students have been working very hard to produce some examples of very professional work. Other highlights for me included Ann Oduwaiye's painting and Koral Ibrahim should be very proud of his graphics project- designs for a food outlet that look so professional they would probably be snapped up by a real company.  All the students should be proud, and thanks to the Art department for supporting them through this year so far."

Colfe's was delighted to welcome back former teacher Joan Allen who retired nearly 11 years ago.  "I love coming back to see the art exhibitions at Colfe's and as always I'm amazed at the variety of the work."

Headmaster Richard Russell was delighted with the high standard of work "It was a pleasure to come and see the professionalism and maturity of the students' work. It is outstanding and great to see such a large and appreciative audience.  I'm encouraged by the dedication of these students and hope that all their hard work will be reflected in their exams at the end of the year."
