ArtIt is our aim within Art and Design to offer an exciting and broad based art course that will encourage our students to fully explore their creative potential, developing increasingly individual styles of work at GCSE and A levels. Our projects all start by looking at and discussing the work of other artists, and may develop in a number of ways including painting, ceramics, print, mixed media three-dimensional work and textiles for all students.

ArtAt GCSE and A level we build upon these skills; painting, ceramics, print, mixed media three-dimensional work, textiles, photography, screen printing and sculptural work.

The Art and Design department is located in a purpose built suite of rooms and includes an exhibition area for temporary and permanent exhibitions of students. In addition there is a resource area containing the art library and networked computers. A large dark room enables us to offer silk screen printing and photography to GCSE and A level students.

The department offers a number of after school studio sessions for all students; art rooms can also be used at lunchtime to develop class work or try out new art techniques with the help of staff members. The department continues to make good use of the galleries and exhibitions in London and has visited galleries abroad in New York and Venice.

Because we offer a vibrant and creative art course our examination results are good and we continue to ensure that students reach their full potential. Each year our students successfully gain places on foundation courses before following fine art or design degrees.
