“The Platform Concert is a chance for us to display the music that we had all been working on and gain the confidence to perform it to an audience. This half-term’s concert was a typically fun night for both adults and children. Everyone who performed was outstandingly good and it seems unnecessary to pick out individuals but for me there were some memorable highlights; Eloise Richardson (Year 11) who played beautifully Two Gnossiennes by Satie on the Piano, Henry Addy-Topping (Year 7) who always makes an impression with his guitar and singing, this time playing We don’t eat by McMorrow, Tobi Ogunjimi’s (Year 9) moving vocals of Tears in Heaven by Eric Clapton and Miles Ashdown (Year 12) singing and playing original pieces for bass guitar.
Miles told me ‘There was an amazing display tonight of talent from both teachers and pupils’ and he was right. I also want to make a special mention for Oliver Bowring and George Brookes both in Year 11 who are talented musicians and helped keep the concert running. George accompanied many people on his guitar throughout the night. My friend Charlotte in Year 7, who played the trumpet and the violin, summed up the night pretty well. ‘It was a thoroughly enjoyable evening and I’m looking forward to the next one!’ Yes, so am I.”
