Science is about asking questions and physicists ask questions about the physical world around us. We also look at some of applications and uses of our knowledge and discuss the implications for our environment and our society.
The Physics Department is a lively, friendly department, committed to providing pupils with a wide range of opportunities to study and enjoy this fascinating subject. The teaching has a strong practical emphasis and makes use of technology such as interactive whiteboards and computer data logging to stimulate pupils’ learning. We place great emphasis on effective relationships between staff and pupils, so that each pupil is encouraged to maximise their academic potential. Our aim is to develop pupils’ knowledge, confidence and enthusiasm so that they continue studying Physics for as long as it is appropriate.

Our laboratories are well equipped, so that pupils at all levels can develop their practical and investigative skills. All the labs have interactive whiteboards and data projectors, as well as access to PCs and the Internet – this allows staff to deliver the curriculum in a style which is varied, stimulating and up-to-date. We encourage our pupils to use their initiative in problem solving, evaluating evidence and presenting their work in the most interesting and appropriate manner.
