PSHEE
This year, PSHEE is being introduced into tutor time for Years 7 to 11. PSHEE stands for ‘Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education’ and aims to teach children the life skills that they need to accompany their academic education. Pupils will discuss topics that affect their everyday lives, such as bullying, relationships, target setting, the law and how it affects young people and financial capability, to name but a few. These sessions will vary between interactive whiteboard work, discussion groups and role-playing, as well as debating and creating presentations. The aim is for pupils to gain an understanding of these topics and build on their communication skills.
Additionally, each year group will be involved in a day every term where they will move around a carousel of sessions on key aspects of PSHEE. For example, in the Autumn Term, they will have a ‘Health Day’ with speakers and activities about sexual, dental, emotional, bullying (face & cyber), substance use & misuse and physical health.
Thank you in advance to Mrs Biggs, who will be giving a poignant assembly on drug abuse to Year 10, to be followed up by discussions and role-play. It will be most beneficial to include speakers on a huge variety of topics throughout the year, so if anyone is willing or knows of anyone they could recommend, please do contact me. This will enhance the pupils’ education and enjoyment tremendously.
