Football was first played way back in the 1800’s. However, in 1929 it was taken off the curriculum and not reinstated for 42 years until 1971. Since then, football has developed considerably in both performance levels and popularity. It is now firmly established as the main activity in the Lent term with over 100 fixtures played each season,

Since 2008 we have run 4 senior teams from Year 11-13, two teams at Under 15 (Year10) and two teams at Under 14 (Year 9). Football teams are not currently running for girls but an element of football coaching is now included for girls in the Year 7 & 8 P.E. programme.

Recent seasons have seen a variety of tours for senior players, including 10 days in Spain with two matches plus training, 20 days in South America, visiting Chile, Uruguay, Brazil and Argentina, 10 days in Florida with four matches plus a training day. In July 2008 the 1st XI squad played in the Gothia Cup in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is one of the world’s biggest youth tournament with 66 countries represented and over 1,500 teams participating.

All our matches are played on excellent pitches at our Leathsellers' Ground, while training takes place both there and on the school Astro pitch.

Match Reports

6/2/10

Colfe’s were determined not to repeat their Brentwood disappointment against Highgate and worked hard to control the match from start to finish. Tommy Rose marshalled the solid defence, Fraser Stewart held the midfield with aplomb and man-of-the-match Alex Graham marauded up and down the left wing all morning.
Colfe’s opened the scoring through Charlie Banks tucking home from inside the penalty area for the only goal of the first half. Just as the second period got underway, the ball broke to Alex Graham outside the opposition’s area and he rifled a 25-yard screamer into the top corner of the Highgate net. Graham sealed his brace minutes later by sliding the ball under the advancing Highgate goalkeeper and the game was won in impressive style.

Colfe’s 1 – 2 Brentwood

4/2/10

I can report that training of the U15s as restaurant waiters is going well so far as they served this game up to Brentwood on a plate. Colfe’s took the lead early on when Alex Graham broke into the box beyond his strikers to lash the ball home. From then onwards, Colfe’s had the upper hand but looked unconcerned as they failed to turn possession into chances and goals.
Just as all were thinking “1-0 win” a poor back-pass fell to the Brentwood centre-forward and he equalised. A few minutes later Brentwood controversially scored again from a corner and despite at last waking up in attack, Colfe’s did not have the time to get back on level terms. Hopefully the U15s will learn from this as they deserved the win. Man-of-the-match was Nick Faloye for his no-nonsense tackling.

Colfe’s 2 – 1 U.C.S.

30/1/10

Playing on the large 1st XI pitch should have allowed the U15As to put together some expansive passing football however the players often found themselves too far apart to construct any meaningful moves. Having played in the Ravenswood cup game and the Daily Mail Vase rugby competition in the previous two days, the lads’ fitness would be tested to the limit.
Colfe’s scored early, with strikers Alex Graham and Eri-ife Williams combining well on the right flank to set up Sean Osborn who had intelligently moved into the opposition box beyond his strike force, as any good attacking central midfield player should do on occasion, to finish low to the U.C.S goal-keeper’s left with a crisp drive. U.C.S. immediately responded and put Colfe’s under a lot of pressure however man-of-the-match goal-keeper Adam Healy was in world-class form as he saved at least half a dozen one-on-ones.
When U.C.S did eventually score, it was from a pin-point cross that their unmarked striker nodded in easily. The home side did not fade, though, and just before half time a through ball saw the rapid Eri-ife Williams race clear and clip the ball impressively over the advancing U.C.S. goal-keeper for a 2-1 lead. Colfe’s players moved closer together in the second half and started playing some better football. U.C.S. missed a penalty in this second period and despite chances at both ends, the score remained unchanged for a solid Colfe’s win.

Ravenswood 2 - 0 Colfe’s (Bromley Cup)

28/1/10

Colfe’s went into this game with confidence and on a farmer’s field of a pitch down a steep slope, the U15As edged the first period and increasingly forced Ravenswood back into their own half. However, despite this pressure the final killer pass was lacking and the old adage of ‘in football you have to score when you’re on top’ came back to haunt Colfe’s as they conceded a controversial penalty on the stoke of half time that Ravenswood tucked away at the second time of asking.
After the break, Colfe’s pushed forward for an equaliser and Ravenswood hit the blue and gold back line more and more effectively on the counter-attack. The U15As defended valiantly, especially man-of-the-match Sean Walsh, however something had to give and Colfe’s hearts were broken as another controversial penalty was awarded to put Ravenswood 2-0 up and that’s how the score remained despite a sterling effort from the Colfe’s lads.

Colfe’s 3 – 3 Sutton Grammar

23/1/10

After a pre-season disrupted by weather, this match was the first occasion that the U15As had played together as a team this year. With the central midfield parntership of Tom Parker and Jordan Paddock injured pre-season, Sean Osborn and Fraser Stewart came in to replace them. Up against a strong Sutton Grammar side with 13 fixtures under their belt already, Colfe’s took a while to get going. Sutton took an early lead via a break-away goal when both centre-backs forgot that the success of a sliding tackle is measured by whether you get the ball, not the length of the skid-mark left in the ground.
Pleasingly the Colfe’s response was robust with joint-man-of-the-match Brandon Johnson combing particularly well with Charlie Banks down the left flank. We eventually equalised from a set piece with joint-man-of-the-match Fraser Stewart slotting home from close range as Sutton failed to clear. Fraser continued to cause problems at set pieces all afternoon and doubled his tally in a similar fashion early in the second half, stabbing in a corner. Unfortunately Sutton quickly equalised.
As the final whistle approached, Eri-ife Williams’ tireless work-rate up front paid dividends as he pounced on a rebound to put Colfe’s into a 3-2 lead. However a bad bobble at the other end (we’ll call it that, shall we Adam?!) wrong-footed Adam Healy in the Colfe’s goal and Sutton equalised again. From then on there was only going to be one winner as Colfe’s applied the pressure but just couldn’t find the winning goal. A great first effort of the season.
